Larry Newman has been with Health Media Network since 2010 and has worn many hats in the organization since then, including his current role as Chief Strategy Officer. The spirit of collaboration with colleagues is one of the things Larry enjoys most about working here. “When we work together as a team to solve issues and drive for better outcomes organizationally, everybody wins. My passion for surfing is an individual sport. But working for success at HMN is a team effort, and I’m glad I get to play a part in it.”
What do you look for when considering a candidate for a leadership role?
The skill set is less important than the candidate’s ability to spread their wings and drive innovation, leadership and motivation to the company. Leadership comes with spreading corporate culture and enthusiasm for whatever product or service the company is providing.
What is your greatest accomplishment? Failure?
I have been an entrepreneur for all of my working life. I started my first business in graduate school, sold two companies and have continued to innovate within the healthcare media space. We all take some failures along the way, but surviving and thriving is what makes you unique. Never give in and never stop.
If you weren’t working in the Point of Care space, what would you be doing?
I’d be riding the waves I can’t control.
How do you motivate others?
I listen, mentor and encourage. Mistakes are OK, we all make them and learn from them. You need to support mistakes and help others learn from them. The expertise you have as a leader motivates team members.
What would people/colleagues be surprised to learn about you?
I was born in NY, grew up in Houston, TX, spent 17 years in California and I am back in NY. It has been quite the ride that brings amazing exposure to people, business and attitude.
